Amec Foster Wheeler

"I'm currently an analyst at Amec Foster Wheeler, a consultancy business that provides provides engineering and project management services for customers.

When I joined the company, I decided to complete a two year placement in the Reactor Physics team at Wylfa nuclear power station, so I could gain some on-site experience. This role involved reactor monitoring and planning refuelling, providing advice to engineers and operators in the control room, and updating the safety procedures and instructions.

I am now part of a large team which chiefly supports EDF Energy to manage the performance, understanding and safety of their nuclear reactors. The team specialises in thermal hydraulic and neutronic modelling of the reactor cores, radiological consequence analysis (radiation dose calculations), probabilistic safety analysis and safety case writing.

I enjoyed making friends with like-minded people during my time at Leeds, and 4 years after graduating I'm still really close with many of my friends from university. I miss all of the fantastic facilities at the University of Leeds, such as the Students' Union, the Edge and living so close to everything.

My advice for others would be to try and make friends with people on your course, working together will be a huge benefit when it comes to coursework and revision!"
