European Space Agency

"I'm a support scientist for the scientific user community at the European Space Agency. I work for the X-ray mission XMM-Newton and I'm responsible for providing help to the users of the satellite.

I keep analysis manuals up-to-date, maintain analysis threads, organise analysis workshops for PhD students, review and evaluate scientific proposals, schedule observations, help with the calibration of the scientific instruments on board the satellite, study the background component that affects the XMM-Newton observations, and many more tasks all dealing with providing help to the users of the satellite.

Prior to this role, I worked for 3 years as a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Physics at the University of Oxford, where I worked on simulations of a camera to be employed in a Cherenkov telescope. After this, I moved to Madrid to work for the European Space Agency, where I've been for the last 10 years.

The School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Leeds offers many possibilities to get into first class research. I have a science project ongoing with the School, so I can't wait to be getting the chance to go back to Leeds in the upcoming years."
